Designs by Talon undertook an ambitious group costume project for the 2010 DragonCon Convention. DragonCon celebrates many myriad genres of fandom. It is done in the context of a magnificent 5 day party in Atlanta, GA that is akin to Mardi Gras or Carnivale. We wanted to do a royal asian court inspired by Zhang Yimou's Curse of the Golden Flower- an epic period melodrama full of lavish costumes and treacherous plots. We created 7 costumes consisting of the emperor, empress, 3 princes and 2 attendants. The endproduct was the result of 2 years of careful searching for desired fabrics and supplies. We entered the construction contest at the convention under the professional category and got a wonderful response from the judges and many attendees who happily took our photos.
